The KCSE Mathematics has two papers: Paper one contains about 70% form one and form two work and 30% form 3 & 4 work, while paper 2 contains 70% from 3 & 4 work and 30% form 1 and 2 work.

How to ace that Mathematics paper:

Get concepts from the basics directly from the course book without fear.

Ensure you follow the concept to its logical conclusion.

Take notice of the examples as they are done, practice with examples until you are able to follow it minus the book.

Once you have the idea ready, get questions and try. Even if it appears difficult try first.

If you are unable to answer the question, proceed to your friend to help you. Never consult on questions or topics you have not tried. Try first and take consultation as the last option.

Set the minimum number of questions you do per day for practice.

Section B questions are majorly set from topics like: Surveying and survey entry; Form one, Surface areas and volumes of solids; Form two, Matrices and transformation, Enlargement and Similarity, reflection and congruence, Commercial Arithmetic, Probability, Income Tax, Differentiation and Integration, area approximation, three-dimensional geometry, linear programming, Statistics, Vectors, graphical methods, Sequences and series and angle properties.

Questions on these sections can be found in revision books and past papers. Solving Problems Mathematics by C. Muturi (senior paper 2 and junior for paper 1) is recommended.

Do not try questions from topics you have not dealt with before.

Always be ahead of the teacher.

There is great advantage in going ahead of the teacher. Topics are always taught when you have an idea about them, so all you do is revision and may be looking for an explanation you did not get well from the book.If the teacher fails to clear the syllabus, you will always be on the safe side, because all that remains for you to do is to consult them on areas you failed to understand during your studies.
This practice gives you a daring culture that keeps you trying questions, however difficult they look.

Discuss with your friends.

Discussion makes complex things look easier and understandable.

Frequent discussions would help you learn more methods of solving one problem.

Adopt a culture of speed test using past papers and test papers.

Speed in mathematics is just undeniably vital. What is the essence of knowing all concepts but you can only answer a quarter of the questions after two hours?

During weekend, or any other time you feel is appropriate, take a past paper whose answers you have and time yourself with it.

Only use papers whose answers you have. However if you have a teacher who would go through your work and give you feedback in time, you are really blessed.

If you are in lower form and student of upper from may be willing to mark, proceed to them for assistance. Such student would gain much from such an opportunity to revise concepts in lower forms. So if you are approached to mark, grab the opportunity with joy!!

This practice will help you adopt appropriate methods of using your time well during the papers.
